Phase 1 Renovations Complete: Arts INC Moves One Step Closer to a Creative Hub for Wood Buffalo

Arts Council Wood Buffalo is pleased to share the successful completion of Phase 1 renovations at Arts INC, marking a major milestone in the journey toward establishing a permanent creative hub in the heart of Fort McMurray.

Completed on time and on budget in early spring 2025, this first phase of work included critical infrastructure upgrades such as a new roof, upgraded electrical systems, and safety lighting. It also involved the full demolition of the building’s interior, clearing the way for the next phase of transformation.

With this work complete, the Arts INC project is now shovel-ready for its next stage of development. Future construction will advance as funds are secured, bringing the vision of a dedicated, purpose-built space for local artists, cultural organizations, and the wider community one step closer to reality.

“This milestone is a testament to the dedication and care that has gone into every step of this project,” said Liana Wheeldon, Executive Director of Arts Council Wood Buffalo. “Arts INC represents a long-term investment in our creative sector and in the revitalization of our downtown. We’re thrilled to have reached this stage, and we look forward to continuing the work alongside our partners and supporters.”

The completion of Phase 1 is an exciting and encouraging step — demonstrating both the feasibility of the project and the ongoing commitment to arts and culture as a cornerstone of downtown revitalization in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.
