Fort McMurray, AB, August 23, 2024 – Arts Council Wood Buffalo (ACWB) and GEC Architecture are pleased to announce the successful completion of the design package for the Arts INC project, a key step in the development of this transformative creative campus in Fort McMurray. With the design phase now finalised, the first phase of construction has gone to bid, bringing the project closer to becoming a reality.
The Arts INC project is a transformative initiative aimed at creating a vibrant, inclusive space that will serve as a hub for creativity, cultural expression, and economic development in the region. The partnership between ACWB and GEC Architecture has been essential in shaping a design that aligns with the community’s needs and aspirations, ensuring the space will foster collaboration, innovation, and artistic growth.
Peter Osborne, Partner-in-Charge at GEC Architecture, shared his excitement about this milestone: “GEC Architecture is thrilled to partner with Arts Council Wood Buffalo on the transformative Arts Incubator project. This is a unique opportunity to create a vibrant, inclusive space to promote creativity and foster both cultural and economic growth in Fort McMurray. Our team is excited to bring our expertise and passion to this community, helping to turn the Arts INC into reality.”
Liana Wheeldon, Executive Director of Arts Council Wood Buffalo, also expressed her enthusiasm: “The completion of the Arts INC design package is a monumental step forward for our community, made possible through our incredible partnership with GEC Architecture. Arts INC will provide a vibrant, inclusive space not just for local artists, but for the entire community to come together, collaborate, and create. We are grateful to GEC Architecture for their expertise and shared vision, and we look forward to seeing this vision come to life.”
The completion of the design package paves the way for the next critical phase of the project. The first phase of construction has now gone to bid, inviting qualified contractors to contribute to the realisation of this innovative space.
The total cost of the Arts INC project is estimated at $16 million. While development grants have been secured, additional support is essential to reach the goal. The $3 million INCredible!
